Swimwear for Curves - Adore Magazine

So this year set myself a goal. I've been writing this blog for 5 years now and I wanted to branch out a little more and see what else I was capable of. Through the help of other blogs and a great local publication I've started writing my own articles and as of Summer 2015, I'm a contributor to Adore Pinup Magazine!

I started my writing year off with a bang and wanted to feature swimsuits that were made for curves. Styles that suit an hourglass figure but can also work on any other body shape (there is nothing better than an adaptable, forever flattering swimsuit!). Now I'm super chuffed to be a part of this and I can't explain how good it feels to not only feature multiple times in this publication for my modeling work but now to be accepted as a writer!

Nadia Desensi did and absolutely brilliant job and creating our vision for these images that went along side the review/article. She is a brilliant wedding and fashion photographer based in Melbourne and you should book her asap! I always feel confident and proud of my shape when I shoot with Nadia. Bellow you will find my review as written in the latest issue. To buy a copy for yourself or to subscribe follow this link.

Summer is here in full swing and it’s time to sort out what we will be wearing to the beach.  Beating the heat can be a little harder when you are a curvier girl, though.  Finding the right style to fit your bust, waist and hip measurements can be a nightmare for clothes in general, but when it comes to swimsuits, a busty lass with a small waist can be lost in a sea of swimwear.

Over the last few years I’ve fallen in love with brands from around the globe, and I’ve come across many who specifically design for curvy shapes and bigger busts.  However, this year I found out that my swimwear designer of choice is no longer in the game.  This just wouldn’t do; I needed a swimsuit for summer and I needed it fast.  I focused my search on Australian-based companies who specialise in curves with a retro flair.  I discovered two great brands that fulfil my needs both fit-wise and style-wise and I’m absolutely thrilled to share these options with other curvy girls.

The first suit I found was the Robyn Lawley ‘Almost French’ 50’s one piece in black, priced at $194.95.  Designed by Australia’s ‘IT’ girl in plus size modelling, this suit is created to fit a curvier shape and is stocked in sizes 10 to 20.  Every girl needs a black one piece swimsuit – it’s the LBD of the swimwear world.  With the ‘Almost French’ suit, you have the classic shape of a black one piece, coupled with amazing black lace and power mesh to mould on to those curves.

The stand out feature of this stunning suit has to be the cage bra attachment above the moulded cups, which works brilliantly on a D/DD bust, and even a GG size which I happen to be.  You can also adjust both the straps and the back, much like you would with a bra, to get the perfect fit.  I’m wearing this suit in a size 18 as I was advised to size up due to the lack of stretch in the lace.

Close up view of the stunning floral fabric!

However, after wearing it for a day, I can say that I would be more suited to a size 16, due to it being a little roomy on my waist and bust after a few hours of wear.  If you are a standard size 16 with a DD chest, be sure to stick with your usual size.  Beyonce, the Queen of Curves, chose to wear this suit in white in her music video for ‘No Angel’, and you can purchase this suit in that exact colourway, in addition to black and navy.

I also stumbled upon Sirens Swimwear in my swimwear search.  They are another local and inspiring swimwear company focusing on the styles of the 50s and 60s; a time when everyone wanted to be curvy, elegant and feminine.  That being said, their main focus is to make every woman – both thin and thick, big and small – feel beautiful, and that really appeals to me.  With Sirens Swimwear you will feel like a silver screen goddess.  Sirens have an amazing range of styles and so many super cute takes on a bikini and a one piece design.  Packed with ruffles, skirts, padding or no padding, there are options for each and every shape!

With my curves in mind, I chose the one suit that shone the most brightly to me – the ‘Lizzie’ in Wild Berry, priced at $189.00.  ‘Lizzie’ is an absolute masterpiece of design and retro sophistication, offering amazing ruching, moulded cups in a sweetheart shape, and thick, supportive straps.  These features make for a figure-hugging shape, perfect to show off an hourglass figure, as the suit moulds to your curves and supports larger busts.  This style also helps create curves if you are not blessed with them!  I’m wearing the ‘Lizzie’ in a size Large, which is a 14 to 16.

The fit is on point and I really adore the berry and navy combo on my pale skin.  Sirens Swimwear offer items in sizes 8 to 20 (or, as listed, XS to XL), so no matter what size or shape you are or what prints you love, you’ll find the perfect swimmers for you!  The ‘Lizzie’ is also available in Navy Polka Dot, Cocktail Black, Aqua Pin Stripe, Red and White Candy Stripe, Aqua Flora and Blue and White Stripe

I’ve paired both of these amazing suits with my silk brush print kimono from 17 Sundays.  It’s been my go-to beach cover up for many years.  While this style is sold out, you can purchase beach appropriate kaftans and kimonos everywhere this season.  I love mixing bold colours and geometric prints with darker suits and bikinis to create my ultimate beach look!

If you have any issues finding a suit in your size you can find the stockists for Robyn Lawley's range here . Sirens Swimwear can be found via their website and across all social media so be sure to add both of these amazing companies on Facebook and Instagram.

Torrid Forward

What you only wear your swimsuits to the beach?

What if you don't go to the beach all that often?

Well then you're like me! I own 7 bathing suits and 2 bikini's but I rarely go swimming and although you might find this a bit crazy but I actually love wearing my swimsuits as bodysuits!

I've always loved bodysuits as I wear a lot of high waisted or form fitting garments and having a secure and fitted suit helps for clean lines and sometimes a little extra suck me in power.

Black Chiffon Crochet Yoke Button-Up Top
-$37.89
Black Halter One-Piece Swimsuit
(SOLD OUT) - $68.50
Torrid Denim - Deep Purple Sophia Skinny Jeans
- $58.50
Coral Suede System Heels
- $39.50

Head to toe, shoes and clutch bag all Torrid! Steering away just briefly from my usual pinup look I had a specific idea style wise when I put in my order. I then crossed my fingers and hoped that I'd picked everything right and you can see by the final result it really worked!

Photobucket

This swimsuit is amazing, I'm so sorry it's sold out but for US residents maybe race into your local store and ask if there are any available to purchase still. It sucks you in and 'm wearing a size 0 and it's very form fitting, so upsize if you want a little more room. The peak'a'boo bust is perfection, I loved the fit and the cheeky skin shown.

I paired this with the sheer shirt which would also rock on the beach if you are looking to cover up a little. This is the smallest size and has heaps of room when done up. The elastic in the sleeve is rather tight though and after wearing this for a short time it left a mark in my forearm. I've got rather small forearms and wrists so it must be unusually tight.

Photobucket

Purple skinny jeans - yes please!! I've got a pair of purple skinny jeans already in my closet but I really love this shade as it seems to pop a little more. These fit perfectly in a size 12 like most of my Torrid skinnies and they are perfectly fitted at the ankle. To break up the outfit a little more I'm wearing my favorite Fellon leather belt and my Shure55 microphone belt buckle.

I had to choose coral shoes to go with the purple jeans they are a match made in heaven!

Rock Rebel - Black Stud Clutch
- $29.50

This clutch rocks! I can't explain how much I love this rock'n'roll little number! It's a great larger sized clutch so you can fit all your essentials in and pair this with pretty much anything! The studded features give it a real rock chic feel and it is also available in hot pink.

Photobucket

Coral Suede System Heels - $39.50

These coral pumps are deeeeeeelish! I've never owned a pair of shoes in this colour but now I'm 100% sold on it! That much so I purchased a coral lipstick this week! Like a majority of shoes for Torrid these are wide width so I ordered one size down. They fit a little tight but when worn for a while they shaped to my foot.

De-Groovy

After the success of my Modette Dress I've become a little more open to the shift dress shape and higher bust lines. So when I came across this bell sleeve black crochet number on Torrid I really wanted to see if it would work with my shape.

LinkPhotobucket

Black Crochet Bell Sleeve Dress - $68.50US
Luichiny Eye Doll Heels - $89.95US
Sportsgirl Leather Bow Headband - $9.95

We have a winner! I'm wearing this dress in my usual size '0' and it is a perfect fit for that 70's shape. I've taken this in a little to fit tighter on my figure but you can wear it as is for a more classic silhouette.

Photobucket

The fabric is fantastic and during winter this style can be rocked with black or bright tights, chunky heels and boots. The bell sleeves are what make this dress pop and turn it into more of a statement outfit rather than just little black dress. This style is short but not mini, you can wear it with or without stockings and you won't have any issues.

Photobucket

I've paired this with two simple black accessories - my new babies from Luichiny shoes and the most adorable chunky leather bow headband from Sportsgirl. The bigger the platform the better for this style dress to suit the 70's feel.

Photobucket

Now this dress did not jump out at me when I originally noticed it online. I have this issue a lot and from the comments I get on a regular basis you guys feel the same way. I always look past the video or the image and think of how I can make that item amazing.

Photobucket

Luichiny Eye Doll Heels - $89.95US

Every time I get a new pair of shoes from Luichiny I swoon like crazy. They fuel my obsession for huge heels and chunky platforms. These babies stand at 5.5 inches with a 2 inch platform. They are medium width, true to size and really comfortable to wear due to the large platform base.

You can get these is black (as shown), Red, Fuchsia and Cobalt Blue and leopard print. I'm trying to resit the urge to get all of these colours! I will be featuring these and a few more styles from Luichiny in the next month so keep your eyes out for super high heels!

Behind the camera again is the always brilliant Michael Alesich from Lucky and Rice. This set plus another to go live in a few days was so fun to shoot!

What she wore - Sunday Best

Every now and then I like my outfit that much that I talk my lovely man into snapping a few candid images of it. Today was one of those days and my oh my did mother nature bring out her big guns right in time for these shots!

Photobucket

The perfect little floral summer dress! I'm having hit after hit with floral frocks from Torrid this summer, I've never owned so much print. I've always loved floral and bright prints but I've never been sure of what suits me, now I'm swooning for prints like this.

Photobucket

I'm wearing this in a size 12 and unlike most of the dresses I've recieved from torrid this actually fits my bust and waist perfectly. Being an hour glass I can have too much room in the waist but this is a perfect fit. The bust is sweet yet shows great cleavage and the spaghetti straps are adjustable for different size busts. The smocked back it actually nips you in at the waist but I've also added the black bow belt to accentuate my shape even more.

The cardigan (size 0) is a basic but I think I'll wear this over so many tanks and little dresses. The back has a black lace panel at the back giving it a little bit more of a rock and roll edge.

Photobucket

After the success of the last two Torrid belts I've had I gave into this adorable bow belt. It's 3 inches wide so it is thick enough to give you a great shape. The whole structure of the belt other than the bow is elastic which sadly means this is a little to large for me. This is nothing that a few stitches can't fix.

I can't wait to wear this as the weather cools down as well. Pairing floral with leather biker jackets and knew high boots is my favorite Autumn style so I'm actually excited for the next two seasons!

Torridtastic

I change my style with my mood. Whatever my inspiration is for that day I run with it! I honestly think about clothing far to much, plan outfits a day or a week in advance. Clothing is the a great way of telling the world how you feel about yourself, your body and your life. So when I get a chance to shoot for the blog I can jump from one style to another and play dress ups.

Photobucket
Torrid Red Leopard Cardigan (sold out) - $44.50US
Torrid Black Peplum Pencil Skirt - $38.50US
Shoes and tank old items in my wardrobe.

Photobucket

Leopard print cardigan - a given for me. I have a entire section devoted to leopard in my wardrobe now and I add to it constantly. I love the vibrant red of this cardigan and how much it pops against black. I'm wearing a size 0 and it is very stretchy and comfortable. This can accommodate a size or two up if you like a snug fit.

Photobucket

Now I was dying to try out this skirt. I know some curvier girls are wary of items that make your hips more pronounced or larger but I actually love the extra ruffle on the top of this skirt. I chose to wear a black tank to make it look more like a cute little black dress. This is also a size 0 but the fabric is so stretchy it will fit a two sizes up also. I think someone with even more curves than me would rock this so much more!

Photobucket

Torrid Floral Chiffon Long Sleeve Dress (sold out) - $64.50US
Brown Braided Rope Belt (sold out) - $19.50US

Although these items are sold out you can find heaps of brown belts here and there are two brilliant new prints in this style dress. They are next on my wishlist!

Photobucket

The best summer dress I've ever owned! I never thought I could wear brown floral but this dress changed my mind. The floaty fabric is perfect for the warm summer days we are currently having and the sleeves are so pretty. This dress comes with a skinny dark brown almost plum waist belt but I prefer to wear a thicker belt with this style dress. I will have to sew a tiny stitch in the bust as my bra pops through every now and then.

Photobucket

I forgot to bring my Torrid wedges that work perfectly with this dress so I had to wear my trusty black pumps! I'm so annoyed though as these wedges are the perfect pair of shoes to wear with this dress all summer.

Lena Camel Brown Strap Wedge - $29.98US

I will show these off in a shoot in the new year but I just wanted a little about them now. I ordered a size 9 but I usually wear a 10. These are wide width so I had to size down to fit my standard width foot. They are very comfortable, great height and the colour is even better in reality. There are heaps of noticed on the ankle strap also to accommodate a variety of ankle widths.

These shots were taken by the wonderful Michelle Grace Hunder Photography. I can't wait to work with her again in 2012!
