Seeing Clearly

My eyes have been giving me grief since lockdown and after chatting online about it with many other computer-based workers, it seems our peepers have been neglected big time.

I've seen my own sight diminish more so over the last 6 to 8 months and I needed to get to the bottom of it, not only for my eye health but for my day job. In the past, I've used big-name Australian chain stores for anything glasses wise but I never felt I was completely looked after. My sight just got worse!

But then a very funky Australian company popped up in my feed. I was seeing the adorable and bright specs pop up on my feed and I had to investigate further.

Once I did a now lifetime love affair and a working relationship has now been created! Dresden Vision are Australia based and they are making getting your glasses simple and transparent.

Their mission:

'We want to democratise glasses. By 2050, there'll be more than five billion people globally who can't see clearly without them. We all need glasses to learn, work and play. So why are they so expensive and fragile, and why the huge impact on our planet? Why's it gotta be so complicated?

We believe companies shouldn't use unfair tactics or 'smoke and mirrors' to keep glasses prices high. It's not a secret, the global optical industry is monopolised by a few big players. These companies own the retail brands and stores, the frame manufacturers and the lens laboratories - they do this so they can squeeze out the competition, and set unreasonable benchmarks for prices. It's our goal to make high-quality prescription glasses accessible and affordable for everyone.

We make our glasses in Australia, from recycled and recyclable materials. We standardised our product to cut down costs - so we can pass on the savings to you.
Our frames come in every colour of the rainbow - because we're all about individuality and pride - but we chose one shape that defies trends, and is built to last.
Visit one of our vibrant stores in Australia or Canada, reach out to us online or over the phone - You'll find our people are caring, wise and frank. Just like our glasses, we're not precious'

In the past, my eye health has never been a focus of other companies only the sale of glasses to me. But from the moment I meet with the Optomitirst and the Fitzroy store I knew they actually cared about my exact issues. Going through each and every test to see exactly what my prescription will be and if I had any underlying issues.

Guess what? It turns out I do! Because they are such an amazing brand they won't just sell you glasses but get to the bottom of any issues ASAP. I was given a referral to an eye specialist and the outcome was exactly what they expected. It turns out I have Keratoconus (ker-uh-toe-KOH-nus) is an eye condition in which your cornea. Mine has become thinner and gradually bulges outward into a cone shape. A cone-shaped cornea causes blurred vision and may cause sensitivity to light and glare. I was seeing numbers and letters wrong because of this.

Once this was confirmed they could give me a prescription to help and options for how to further correct this in the future. As I'll need to get regular scans to see if this issue gets worse over time.

I don't think I've ever felt so seen by anyone in the medical field and honestly, this was refreshing and even emotional.

With my new script, I opted for two pairs of lenses and 5 different coloured frames. These frames are interchangeable and you can mix and match the arms and pins with other colours. Changing the lenses while scary the first time is a breeze and I've been wearing multiple frames a week. Whatever the outfit or the mood I love the ability to change things up.

What's even more appealing is the price point. All frames with your custom prescription start at $75.00 (Mine were $75 even with the Keratoconus) No hidden fees, no mess! Plus they have created the most flattering shape on earth! I never suit all styles and these are perfect for me!

PLUS they have an amazing offer at the moment of 50% off your first order - so prescription glasses from $37.50. If you are in need of a new pair of frames or want to get your peepers tested be sure to check out Dresden Vision. You can pop online and order with your current script to get 50% off your first order with the code Welcome50.
